ESL Classes
Welcome students and families! Ms. Shaffield’s “English as a Second Language (ESL)” classes (p. 81)¹ are designed for “English language learners (ELLs)” who are in the process of acquiring English listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills needed to “achieve grade-level content” (p. 119).²

Students’ placement in the Beginner, Advanced, or Newcomer ESL course is determined by their “English language proficiency” as measured “by a WIDA screener and other placement criteria” (p. 119).² Each course has a different curriculum that is appropriate for the grade level in which it is implemented.

Note: This website will be updated periodically throughout the 2020-2021 school year to reflect the updated curriculum based on changing circumstances for in-school and distance learning needs.
